Class Descriptions

Ballet

Ballet classes are the foundation for training and focus on developing a solid ballet technique with emphasis on understanding correct body placement, proper use of turn out, coordination of the upper body and use of arms. Students with strong ballet technique, sufficient core and ankle strength may go on to study pointe work.

Contemporary

Contemporary class nurtures the creative, artistic soul in everyone because of its expressiveness and freedom of individuality. It introduces students to fundamental principles of contraction/release, spirals, and shifting of weight. Students focus on movement from the inside out, encouraging use of breath, energy, and connection. This class will develop an awareness of where the body goes naturally, with an exploration of musicality, movement style, space, movement initiation and floor work.

Hip Hop

Hip hop classes are high-energy, fast-paced, and fun. Students will incorporate a variety of street and urban dance moves, such as breaking, popping, and locking. Dancers will improve their technique and learn to express themselves through freestyle and improvisation.

Jazz

Jazz focuses on developing strength, flexibility, correct alignment, and coordination. Students will gain the ability to move quickly and think fast while learning the fundamentals of jazz technique in its multiple styles.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance combines the strength of jazz and the beauty of Ballet with emotional performance. Dancers are encouraged to express emotions through powerful music and technique.

Tap

Tap classes focus on rhythm, musicality, and timing. Beginner students explore the fundamental steps and learn terminology. Advanced/Intermediate students will further develop skills, focusing on clarity of sounds and increasing speed as well as dynamics and musicality.

Technique Classes

Technique classes will focus on certain skills and exercises to help dancers retain and supplement the technique they are learning in their fundamental classes. Available classes include Jumps & Turns, Conditioning and specialty technique styles.
